What the Gondogoro La pass trek is
It is the high point of the K2 and Concordia loop, turning an out-and-back walk into a one-way crossing to Hushe.
After Concordia, most groups continue to Ali Camp at about 5,000 m, then cross Gondogoro La and descend to Khuspang at about 4,680 m.
From there the trail drops through Shaircho to Hushe Valley and a jeep road back to Skardu.
The full journey begins at Askole, so read how to reach Askole from Skardu first.

How hard is the Gondogoro La pass trek?
It is a demanding, high-altitude day that needs fitness, acclimatisation and a steady head, not mountaineering expertise.
Expect to start in the dark, climb a steep snow slope with fixed ropes, and then descend a long, exposed slope. The day can run 10-12 hours or more.
Weather can delay or cancel the crossing, so your group must be willing to turn back.
Gear for the Gondogoro La pass trek
Technical kit matters more here than anywhere else on the trek.

- Insulated boots, warm gloves and a down jacket
- Headlamp with spare batteries for the pre-dawn start
- Sunglasses or goggles and high-factor sun protection
- Trekking poles, water bottles and trail food

Safety on the pass
Turn back early if weather, health or the group’s pace says so.
At 5,000 m and above, headache, nausea and poor sleep can signal acute mountain sickness.
Breathlessness at rest, a wet cough, confusion or loss of balance are emergencies: descend and get help. See the CDC guidance on altitude illness.
There is no mobile signal on the glacier.
Carry a satellite communicator if possible, share your route with someone at home, and make sure your insurance covers high-altitude evacuation.
